First Softball Scrimmages Bring Positives

Lubbock, TX – Just two weeks after the first practice and workout on January 24, the Permian softball team hit the road to the Hub City of Lubbock for three scrimmage games on Saturday.

arebalosThe Lady Panthers played the first two of three games at the Lubbock Monterey field.  In the opener, Mojo had a little problem getting things going.  Mojo absorbed a 10-0 loss to Monterey, but refused to let that break their spirits.

Permian head coach Angela Arebalos found the team to have had a rough start, but thought the girls did a good job of fighting back the next two games.

In the second game, the Panthers roared back with a little extra spark in the effort.  Hitting was strong and Seminole fell prey to a 13-5 convincing win for the Lady Black Cats.  On several occasions with runners on base, Permian would execute with quality at-bats at the plate.

Mojo invaded Rosenow Field for the third and final game of the trip.  The defensive gloves stayed on point with fielders making some great plays.  The pitching staff came out strong, particularly in the game against the Lady Mustangs.  The hard work they are putting in appears to be paying off.  Permian claimed a 5-2 victory and will be taking many positives away from the three games.

There’s always room for improvement and things that need to be worked on, but Coach Arebalos and the 2020 softball team can’t help but feel pretty good about the outcome today.

The Lady Panthers will return to Lubbock for another scrimmage game next Thursday.  This time they’ll face Lubbock Cooper.  Two days later on February 15, Permian will take part in a full day of scrimmages at the Ratliff softball complex.  Permian, Odessa High, Ft Stockton, El Paso Coronado, and El Paso Montwood will be participants.
