Athlete of the Week

The “Athlete of the Week” award recognizes the outstanding performance and achievement of Permian High School players / student-athletes.

Each week of the 2020 season – including non-district, tournament, district, and playoff games – a student athlete is recognized for their hard work and contribution.

Permian athletes will have the opportunity to be considered and nominated, simply by excelling in three areas:

– Individual performance on the court or field.
– Contribution to the team through leadership.
– Academic and community involvement off of the field.
   


FEBRUARY 17-22
parchman Jake Parchman
Jake claimed First Place in the Belton Big Red Relays this past weekend, which is his second consecutive track meet win in Discus. As a four-year varsity member, his has got close and aspires to break the school record, as well as compete in the state meet later this Spring.

FEBRUARY 10-15
Tyra Harris
Harris claimed First Place in all her events this past week – 1st in High Jump, 1st in 200m, member of 4×1 relay that finished first, and member of 4×2 that finished first. The Permian senior holds the school records for the 200 meters, as well as being a part of both the 4×1 relay and 4×2 relay.

FEBRUARY 3-8
pando Bridgett Pando
Pando won her second consecutive All-Around title of the season at the district qualifier on Saturday. She is a four-year member of the Permian gymnastics team, 3-time state medalist, and has received ‘First Team’ All-District honors three years.

JANUARY 27-31
daysia Daysia Christian
Christian turned in back-to-back double-digit scoring games against Frenship and Midland High. The senior post recorded 17 points on Tuesday. Against the Lady Dawgs on Friday, she finished the night with 19 points, nine rebounds, and logged four steals.

JANUARY 20-25
stephens-deary Shy Stephens-Deary
Shy showed his skills this past week, leading the boys basketball team to convincing wins over OHS and Amarillo Tascosa. He recorded 15 goals, 14 assists, five three-pointers, and five steals in the two district games. Shy also made 3-of-7 of his free throws. This is the senior guard’s second year on varsity.
  
JANUARY 13-18
munoz Nyxalee Munoz
Munoz has been impressive in the past two tournaments for the girls soccer team.  She scored eight goals and had three assists in Lubbock and Justin. The two-year varsity starter is only a sophomore.  She is also a member of the varsity volleyball team.
  
JANUARY 6-11
nakavieon white Nakavieon White
White led the boys basketball team to a victory over El Paso Pebble Hills with his 37 points – including: scoring 12 goals, making 12-of-13 free throws, and sinking a three-pointer. He also recorded 11 rebounds and seven assists during the game on January 11.  White is a two-year varsity starter.
