Lee Claims Win Over Lady Panthers

MIDLAND, TX – Midland Lee took advantage of a dismal second quarter by the Lady Panthers to cruise to a 64-27 district victory on Friday. Permian was unable to answer a 15-1 second quarter and 23-9 fourth quarter.

guzmanThe Lady Rebels limited the Mojo offense to three shooters producing points.  Daysia Christian finished the evening with a game-high 15 points.  Karen Guzman contributed nine, while Nodia Cooper made three of five free throws.  The three accounted for all of Permian’s points.

Led by Christian and her seven first quarter points, the Lady Panthers matched pace with the Lady Rebels.  The teams traded baskets until late in the frame when Midland Lee gained a 13-10 advantage.

A second quarter meltdown left the Lady Panthers on the short end of a 15-1 run.  Lee buffered a 17-point lead that left Permian trailing 28-11 at the intermission.  The lone Mojo point in the quarter came from a Cooper free throw.

Christian made two baskets and Guzman drained a three in the third stanza, but again Lee’s offense outproduced Permian’s effort with 13 more points.  Shots by the Lady Panthers just wouldn’t fall and the deficit grew to 41-18.  The final eight minutes saw Permian chalking up points from free throw line.  Meanwhile, Lee’s Stephanie Madrid drop three three-pointers.  The remainder of the 22-point quarter by the Lady Rebels came largely by way of free throws.

The Lady Panthers will close out the district slate on Tuesday. Permian will travel north to Amarillo for a date with Tascosa.  Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
