Seminole, TX – Permian continued its road woes on Saturday with a 74-45 loss to Seminole at the Buck Caffey Court. It’s the third consecutive loss for the Panthers after starting the season with an unblemished 4-0 mark.
In a low scoring first half, the Black Cats were able to take a 10-9 lead in the opening frame. Tremayne Baty and Kyson Moreno played reinforcement for Zay Pierce and Race Herr with early baskets. Head coach Tim Thomas watched his visiting Panthers get limited to a season low 7-points in the second quarter. Herr and Cedric Baty relied on free throws to produce the only points in the period.
Seminole took the lead midway in the stanza and never let Permian regain control. Similar to the meeting with Rockwall-Heath, a barrage of perimeter three-pointer were left unanswered by the Panthers. Elijah Beard led the Indians with a game-high 28 points, scoring six in the second quarter. He accounted for five of Seminole’s 13 treys. Herr finished as top scorer for the Black Cats with 15. The Tribe outscored Mojo by 10 points in the second eight minutes to claim a 26-17 halftime advantage.
Permian has prided itself on coming back stronger in the second half. In this afternoon’s game, that was something that just didn’t happen. The Panthers posted an 11-point third quarter and 17-point fourth, while Seminole racked up 24 in each the third and fourth periods. Freshman Ben Saldivar provided a bright spot for Mojo, scoring five in the final frame.
The Indians shot 13-for-14 from the free throw line, while the Panthers went 6-for-9. Seminole knocked down 13 three-balls, while Permian made four. Mojo will attempt to regroup and flip the script as they finish off the non-district slate of road games next week. The Panthers travel to Abernathy on Tuesday (December 15) and then Wall on Friday (December 18). The Mojo Machine will begin district play at Odessa High on December 22.
