Volleyball Takes Bi-District Win

Odessa, TX – After a tough first set with El Paso Montwood, Permian’s volleyball team won three-straight sets (24-26, 25-12, 25-21, 25-15) to claim a 3-1 Bi-District victory in the PHS Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

The Lady Black Cats have come into their own and are the only 2-6A team advancing in the state playoffs out of the four district teams.  Midland High and Frenship lost on Monday, while Midland Legacy fell 3-0 tonight.

Junior Jade Workman led Permian by recording 26 kills, 17 assists, 13 digs, and a pair of aces.  Cianna Harris finished with 11 kills and Sarahi Orona had 10.  Iliana Garcia led in digs with 14, followed by Anahi (13) and Sarahi (10) Orona.  Layny Brown donated a whopping 30 assists.

The Lady Panthers and Rams traded jabs in the opening frame, which included multiple 20+ volley hits in a 26-24 win for Montwood.  From there, Mojo settled in and collected the next three sets.  The second stanza witnessed Permian build a more than five-point advantage and ride that lead to a 25-12 win to even the match at 1-1.

The third set resembled the first with both teams trading leads.  The Lady Panthers took control late in the frame to claim a 25-21 victory to go up 2-1.  Permian ripped through the fourth and final set, leaving no doubt of their ability to close out contests.  Mojo built an eight-point margin, while Montwood was unable to close the deficit in a 25-15 Black Cat decision.

Permian (32-9) will continue in the state playoffs and will meet Southlake Carroll (20-20) at Abilene Cooper on Friday, November 4 at 6:00 p.m.  The Dragons upset Weatherford 3-2 to reach the Area Round of the playoffs.
