Odessa, TX – After splitting road games with the two Midland ISD teams, Permian defeated San Angelo Central in straight sets (25-22, 26-24, 25-20) in the District 2-6A home opener at the PHS Fieldhouse.
Jade Workman led the Black Cats with 14 kills, 18 assists, eight digs, three serving aces, and a block. Cianna Harris finished with eight kills and a block, while Sarahi Orona led in digs with 13. Layny Brown topped the assists with 20 in the Mojo victory.
In three competitive and contested sets, San Angelo Central and Permian traded leads throughout the evening. The Lady Panthers were able to build a seven-point advantage in the opening set, but the Lady Cats narrowed the deficit late in the first set. Mojo held on for a 25-22 win.
The second set provided a catfight that featured six lead changes. Permian managed to get the upper hand after a pair of Central mistakes to claim a 26-24 set victory. Mojo completed the task by taking a 25-20 third set decision for the straight set sweep over San Angelo.
The Lady Panthers improve to 2-1 in 2-6A and will host Frenship, also 2-1, next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Permian Fieldhouse. The Lady Cats fall to 1-2 in district.
