Abilene, TX – The Mojo volleyball team showed why they deserve the final playoff spot in District 2-6A by defeating Abilene High in three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) on Tuesday in the Eagle gym.
Sophomore Jade Workman led Permian with 13 kills, 19 assists, a block, and three aces. Nyxalee Munoz finished with 11 kills and eight digs. Defensively, Anyssa Cruz recorded 14 digs while Iliana Garcia followed with another 11 digs. Lady Panthers assists leader Denali Cardenas was credited with 22 assists.
The Lady Panthers and Eagles battled in all three sets, with Mojo securing the first and third sets on the match point serves for 25-23 bookend wins. Permian gained a slight edge midway into the second set and refused to let Abilene High back into the match to claim a 25-20 decision.
The Black-and-White came away with a three-set sweep to setup Friday’s showdown with the San Angelo Central. The Lady Panthers (4-6, 27-14) will host the Lady Cats (4-6, 14-19) in a battle at the Permian Fieldhouse for the fourth spot in District 2-6A. Mojo won in five sets over Central in the first meeting in San Angelo.
