Bulldogs Get Three Bombed

Midland, TX – It was bombs away from three-point land as Permian dished out a 77-60 thrashing of Midland High in the District 2-6A basketball game at the Bulldog gym on Friday.

The Panthers uncorked 13 treys en route to the lopsided victory. The ‘JABS’ tag team delivered the one-two punch. Sophomores Jamibrione Anderson and Ben Saldivar led Permian in scoring and accounted for 33 points.

Just as in the first meeting between the two teams, the Panthers had four players finish in double-digit scoring. Anderson finished the night with 18 points, and Saldivar followed closely with 15 points.

Second-year starter Race Herr turned in a 14-point effort, while Tremayne Baty added another 12. Midland High’s London Rickett topped all scorers with 20 points, including a pair of three’s.

The Bulldogs proved themselves worthy in the first frame, staying to within a basket of the Panthers. The 16-14 Mojo lead became 38-29 by the time intermission rolled around to extend the deficit to nine points.

The Permian offense dropped the hammer on Midland High in the third period, outscoring the hosts 22 to 10 to enjoy a 60-39 advantage. With the game clearly out of reach, the Black Cats went on to cruise to a 77-60 victory.

The Panthers (5-3) will now host San Angelo Central (4-3) on Tuesday. The Bobcats claimed a 51-43 decision in the first meeting at the Didrikson Gymnasium on January 7. Tip for the cat fight is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Permian Fieldhouse.
